Information We Collect

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address. If you sign in with Google, we also receive your name and profile photo from Google.

Usage data: We collect information about how you use FreightWatch — searches performed, carriers viewed, watchlist activity, and pages visited. This data is used to improve the product and detect abuse.

Billing information: If you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment is processed by Stripe. FreightWatch does not store your credit card number or payment details. We retain your Stripe customer ID and subscription status.

Communications: If you contact us via the contact form or email, we retain that correspondence to follow up and improve our support.

How We Use Your Information

To provide and operate the FreightWatch service — including carrier search, watchlists, email alerts, and account management.

To send transactional emails — magic link sign-in codes, email alerts for watchlisted carriers, and billing receipts. These are required for the service to function and cannot be opted out of while your account is active.

To enforce subscription tier limits and process billing through Stripe.

To monitor for abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access.

To improve FreightWatch — we analyze aggregated, anonymized usage patterns to guide product decisions.

FMCSA Data

FreightWatch displays carrier data sourced from FMCSA public datasets published by the U.S. Department of Transportation (data.transportation.gov) and the FMCSA Licensing & Insurance database. This data is public government information and is not personally identifying in the context of individual users.

FreightWatch is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration or any government agency.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

We share data only with the following service providers who help us operate FreightWatch: Supabase (database and authentication infrastructure), Stripe (payment processing), Resend (transactional email delivery), Google (OAuth sign-in), and PostHog (product analytics and session replay). Each provider is bound by their own privacy policy and data processing agreements.

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of FreightWatch and its users.

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as resolving billing disputes.

Watchlist data, alert history, and search logs are deleted when your account is deleted.

Security

FreightWatch uses industry-standard security practices: HTTPS for all data in transit, encrypted storage for sensitive credentials, row-level security on the database so users can only access their own data, and passwordless authentication to eliminate password-related vulnerabilities.

No system is perfectly secure. If you believe you've discovered a security vulnerability, please contact us via the contact page.

Your Rights

You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you at any time via our contact page.

You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data via our contact page.

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under the GDPR including the right to rectification, restriction of processing, and data portability. Contact us via our contact page to exercise these rights.

Cookies

FreightWatch uses session cookies to maintain your authentication state. These are strictly necessary for the service to function and are not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date below and, where appropriate, notify you by email. Continued use of FreightWatch after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
